Independent Women’s Voice Celebrates Victory in Hawaii-01 Special Election
Washington, DC – The Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) celebrates the special election victory of Charles Djou in Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District special election.
“We are thrilled to have contributed to such an important victory for Republicans in President Obama’s backyard,” said IWV President Heather Higgins. “To play such a crucial role in the first special election Republican victory in a district held by Democrats for nearly 20 years is a great feeling.”
IWV launched this ad criticizing Ed Case’s voting record and staff hires in Hawaii and the website www.thecaseisclosed.com on May 6th. The ad buy was more than $200,000 and ran thru May 21st.
Until IWV entered the race, there were no third party ad campaigns from the center right in the state. Soon after IWV launched its ad, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee exited the race.
According to this study from GEB International, IWV’s ad helped draw support away from Mr. Case among Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
Among the highlights:
- Ed Case’s support among Independent voters fell from 32 percent to 23 percent from April 20th to May 16th. Among Republican voters, his support fell from 15 percent to eight percent, and among Democrats, his support fell from 40 percent to 29 percent.
- Among independent women, support for Ed Case dropped from 33% to 16% by May 16.
- Ed Case’s support fell 10 points in the overall ballot.

Thank you for injecting even more negative, fear based advertising to the Hawaii political scene. Don’t start rejoicing just yet, in November when he will only face one Democrat, Djou will be sent back home and a Democrat will reclaim the seat.
Aloha

It’s too bad that campaigning for honorable public offices boils down to who has more money, attack ads and media savvy.
I believe that Djou could still win based on principles like reining in government spending and representing the people, not the political party.
What a sad commentary on how low politics have fallen. No more careful examination of issues. Just more and more media hype. It will turn off a lot of honest and upright people who will serve us well.
TERM LIMITS must be fought for at all costs. It breeds arrogance, contempt, and corruption.
Aloha!

Congratulations on helping win one seat for a mere seven months. All you have done by attacking Case is help an exponentially more liberal democrat take over the office for the foreseeable future come December. Way to think that one through.
And for the record, your attempts to disguise your uber conservative ideology by using “independent” and “mainstream” are PATHETIC, its evident that you’re all just to scared to reveal your true colors because your brand is broken. If your name was even remotely accurate you would have been spending your money elsewhere, so why don’t you grow a pair and come clean about who and what you cowards are.

I was so delighted about the Charles Djou win, and congratulate you on your role in making it possible. I started off ready to comment on the vitriol in one of the above comments. But that would only contribute to the atmosphere of hostility that is all too present in our public life today. Instead let me respond to another of the comments above. Like S. L., I want Djou to win on principles, not on the basis of any political ad. Reigning in government spending and representing the people sound like excellent principles. But it doesn’t hurt at all the folks like IWV are putting a little muscle behind Djou. We can’t just wish for the right thing to happen.

Kudos to IWV for its help with Djou’s victory! It’s time that more lawmakers are held accountable for their reckless spending habits. The American people have been forced to tighten their belts in this down economy – it’s time our government does the same. And to Ted and S.L. above, there’s never been a golden age of politics. But giving people the facts and letting them make up their mind isn’t dirty politics – it’s democracy!
