Health Care Petition
We, the undersigned, oppose the health care legislation currently being advanced by the House and Senate. We believe that medical decisions should be made by patients and doctors—not by government officials. We oppose this legislation to radically transform our health care system, because it would:
- Increase the cost of health insurance for millions of American families
- Reduce Americans’ control over their health care dollars and decisions
- Fail to address the underlying causes of rising health care costs in America
- Discourage life-saving innovation in the medical field
- Create a new mandate for individuals to purchase insurance under the threat of government punishment
- Add to our already ballooning government debt
- Raise taxes on millions of families, businesses, and workers
- Slash the Medicare program—instead of giving seniors more options, it would restrict services and lead to lower quality of care
- Increase the cost of hiring workers—particularly devastating given the historic levels of unemployment
- Allow government officials to dictate allowable health insurance policies and set standards of care for millions of Americans
- Fundamentally alter the relationship between individuals and the state, creating a citizenry that is more dependent on government and less free
- Create a significant expansion of government power and loss of liberty for individuals
We know that there are better ways to improve our health care system. We petition Congress to go back to the drawing board and focus on ways to make health care options competitive, portable and to put more power in the hands of individuals to choose our doctors and treatment options without government interference.
America deserves the best health care system in the world, and this legislation takes us in the wrong direction.
Sincerely,
Audrey Jones,
Denise Morrissey,
We would be fools to actually believe that our government really cares about our healthcare. What they care about is control of our lives from conception to the grave. I for one , refuse to give them that control.
xxxxxxxx,
This does not represent anything I want. I know many people who are opposed. I also know people who received medical attention and did have any insurance. I want the government to get out of my life. In fact, I think Congress meets too often as it is. We really would do well without them, because they don't represent me. Why don't they have the same health plan as the rest of the Americans? They are a bunch of elitist pigs and hypocrites.
Regina Truslow,
Please start over.
Judith King,
Stephanie Jones,
Anne Farrelly,
Please keep up your good work..
Lee Meggison,
John Brown,
Denise Over,
Torte reform, opening state lines as well as allowing individuals to choose plan options (one size does not fit all) are the 3 keys to reworking our health care system.
